Singers
India
Songs have been a part of every film, somehow getting into the script
as part of story itself. There have tradition during early days
that actors and actresses have to be singing stars. That was the
era of K. L. Saigal, Pankaj Mullick, K. C. Dey, Kanan Devi, Ashok
Kumar, and other. However, later in time, playback singing became
the dominant system that gave birth to great singers as Zohra Bai,
Amirbai, Shamshad Begum, Lata Mangeshkar, Muhammad Rafi, Mukesh,
Geeta Dutt, Talat Mahmood and others. All those voices gave many
immortal melodies that are great treasures of the time.
Pakistan
There was tradition during early days of Indo-Pakistan
film making that actors and actresses have to be singing stars.
Noor Jehan continued with that tradition for sometime. New playback
singers emerged in time. Good poetry made great ghazal singers to
give their golden voices for the screen. Artists from radio and
many new singers created a good
team of film playback singers.
