Traditional
India
Punjabi cultural music presents great relation of events, those
of harvest in the fields, love and affections of family life. It
represents the songs that set the throbbing beat to which the comely
maidens and the sturdy young men dance with abandon and verve. It
includes the poetry and songs that bring back the memories of the
legends, like Heer Ranjha, Sassi Punnu and Mirza Sahiban.
Pakistan
Punjab is rich with poetry and heritage of folk music. Just naming
Waris Shah brings in memory a huge treasure of poetry named "Heer
Waris Shah". However, Mirza Sahiban, Billo Mahiya, and many other
legends have great themes for poetry and each rendered in its own
style by famous singers. Sangeet Mahal archives include all those
great creations in music.
