India
Indian music is built on Ragas, which are melodic
forms and are based on (I) Parent Scale 72 in number and (ii) ascending
and descending scales known as Arohana and Avarohana respectively.
Each Raga has its own character, color and mood which go to build
up an atmosphere appropriate to the time of day or night, season
or occasion. It retains its roots in pure melody and rhythm, and
the subtle and intricate interplay of these essentials is its essence.
Pakistan
The art of music practiced in Pakistan has a special
significance, as it has developed from the ritualistic music in
association with folk music and other musical expressions of neighboring
nations. One of the strongest and most significant influences has
perhaps been that of Islam (and of Persian music); a few centuries
of Muslim invasion and rule of Indo-Pakistan sub-continent brought
in its wake a changed perspective in the style of Pakistani music,
rather than in its structure. Matured through ``thought, experience
and expression'', Pakistani classical music has become a unique
characteristic art.
